| Early in 2001 Edd was commissioned to do art murals for a Sydney restaurant and disco venue; which thus presented him a challenge : How to view his paintings under UV-light (disco blacklight) conditions? This query quickly launched Edd's search engine; and by some stroke of luck, he was able to gain access to fluorescent & phosphorescent pigments with the help of an old friend who works for the pigment industry. Excited, Edd searched and "discovered" via the internet other UV-reactive pigments, optical brighteners, binders, polymers, varnish, retardants, driers and other related substances and materials including UV-reactive plastic neon tubes. Likewise via the internet, Edd found out more about UV professional lamps & tubes (mostly manufactured in USA); how to work safely under UV light conditions; and how to install and illuminate Aragonite Art paintings effectively with an ordinary 36-watt UV fluorescent tube. Working on these unusual (if not rare) industrial substances, Edd was astounded upon realising he's been actually working on Aragonite mineral base pigments. It is of a weird coincidence that the artist's name is Aragon and the main pigment he had just adapted as his personal "in" medium is called Aragonite. Edd is now able to create "invisible paintings" or dual-imagery artworks. Aragonite pigment when mixed with various polymers is virtually clear or invisible. To illustrate, Edd's portrait of a lone person under normal lighting is joined in by other members of his family under uv light (who previously were invisible under normal light). Lots of ideas come to mind with this concept. Your baby portrait becomes an adult one under uv light. You may have other ideas that could be worked out with the UV artist. Edd's paintings, big or small, could enhance the ambience of any living room. The neonesque quality of his art also lends itself well to nocturnal establishments like restaurants, casinos & disco venues. Stageplays can also take advantage of "now-you-see-it-now-you-don"t" effect by using Aragonite stage backdrop murals and props, just by the flick of the uv light switch (without actually changing the backdrop scenario). The UV artist accepts both private & corporate commissions; and offers for gallery exhibitions. |
